The Origins of Pizza by Weight: How Pizza Per Kg Brought the Concept to Faisalabad

The Origins of Pizza by Weight - Pizza Per Kg Faisalabad

Where does pizza by weight come from?

Pizza sold by weight has a real history, and it did not start with any single modern brand. It traces back to Rome, Italy, where a style called pizza al taglio (literally 'pizza by the slice') was developed. Pizza al taglio is baked in large rectangular trays and sold in slices priced per kilogram or per 100 grams, a tradition that is common throughout Italy to this day and has since spread to pizzerias around the world.

How the weight-based idea reached Faisalabad

While the pay-by-weight idea has deep Italian roots, it has traditionally been served pre-made, cut to order from a tray. Pizza Per Kg has brought a build-your-own version of this concept to Faisalabad: the dough and base are free, and you only pay for the weight of the toppings you personally choose, such as cheese, meat, olives, mushrooms and more. You can read the full breakdown of how this compares to a normal pizza order in our article on Conventional Pizza vs Pizza Per Kg.
